View Full Version : why is my skimmer suddenly overflowing?

I'm using a euroreef skimmer with the gate valve mod. It has been working fine but tonight I awoke from a nap to find it was overflowing. No matter how much I opened the gate, the cup filled so quickly that I had to shut off the skimmer for the night. What gives? The water level in the sump has not changed ...

Did you add anything to the tank? Water conidtioner? Frag epoxy?

How do you feed the skimmer now? Pump, overflow??? What model is it? What size neck diameter, what pump?

RS100 with stock pump (SP2- Euro-Reef modified SEDRA KSP-3500A water pump) fed from sump with water from overflow.

How do you 'feed from sump with water from overflow'? Is it a recirc?

I'd check your pump. IME a clog in the venturi is what made my skimmers get to high and overflow. Check your venturi nipple

Gate valves are very unforgiving with particles that make them clog as well.
