PanWorld v.s. Quiet One

so i bought a used PanWorld 50px external pump that i was thinking about using on my next system.

After further reflection i think i might not want to use it.
it seems Quiet one offers a better pump for my aplication.
I figured i might call upon the help of fellow reefers.

if anyone has any info that might help me make this decision let me know.

After further reflection i think that the Quiet one pump would be better because it would deliver more water; use less electricity; take up less space; install easier; and hopefully make less noise because it is in the tank.

im not a big fan of quiet one pumps or mag drives
panworld run warm but would be my choice

Careful about the statements about the discharge flow and electrical consumption-your actual system may dictate something different. The 2 pump curves are located at these links:

Note that at 6 feet of head (TDH) the Q1 delivers about 600 gph while the PW actually is a little more (roughly 610 gph ±). Actual electrical consumption is also a function of the work done by the pump, so it's going to vary based on the flow & head requirements of your application as well.

As to your other points, def. agree that the submersible pumps are easier to install and typically quieter. The downside is that they can add heat to your tank, which may or may not be a big problem. I personally have had great success with Mag pumps (I use the Mag 5, Mag 7, and Mag 18 all on my 120) without too many heat issues.

As for external pumps, they are typically more of a chore to install, but since they are air cooled they shouldn't add heat load to the tank. They can also be nosier, although installation techinques have a lot do with this. I personally am a fan of the MDM/Sequence pumps; I had an old Iwaki that ran 'loud' on the 120 to start. Found out later that I had the 'louder' version of the motor (American vs. Japanese made; can't remember which is which right now.) Other than the noise it was a good pump.
