View Full Version : PanWorld v.s. Quiet One

so i bought a used PanWorld 50px external pump that i was thinking about using on my next system.

After further reflection i think i might not want to use it.
it seems Quiet one offers a better pump for my aplication.
I figured i might call upon the help of fellow reefers.

if anyone has any info that might help me make this decision let me know.

compare and contrast:

Quiet one 4000 Pan world 50px

Power 50watt 90watt

max head 10' 16.5'

max gph 1017gph 590gph

Placement submergable outside tank

After further reflection i think that the Quiet one pump would be better because it would deliver more water; use less electricity; take up less space; install easier; and hopefully make less noise because it is in the tank.

As long as you don't need the pressure head and just need to move water, the Quiet One pump is more efficient. As long as you don't have much vertical distance to pump and no constrictions you don't need a pressure rated pump. Why waste the electricity turning a tight impeller.

quiet ones run hot look at design maybe less wattage however heat is removed via the water flowing through it. Used one several years ago raised temp. 5 degress May want to check with manufacure for your size aquarium

Pan worlds are great pumps. I have two now. I have a Panworld 200 and 250 PS. Similer to the Iwaki 70 rlt and the 100rlt. They don't run hot at all and are warm to the touch. There is no heat transfer either to worry about and they are very quiet.

Are your pan world pumps i the same room as your display tank?

Mine will be and noise is my bigest concern because it is the only room with a T.V.

Actually my tank is in the basement where I do have a TV and stay down there sometimes. My overflow is louder than the pumps. LOL!!! All I hear from the pumps are the fans. These Pan Worlds are totally balanced and very well built. Usually the noise comes from the impeller assembly when it's off balance and the motor is completelty silent. But I have found that they are very quiet. No worries.

i use to be a iwaki fan untill i got panworld.. so i switched from green to yellow.. they are not dead quit but they are not so loud as to annoy you ( imo anyway) thay are a good price for what they do and seem to be built to last...

QO 4000s have had many startup, noise, and QC issues. Ditto. Stick with the pan world and remove the fan shroud to make it quieter.

what do you mean remove the fan? is there a mod out there to do this and how well does it work?
