hey new to the game . i have a 400 w MH bulb would it be too hot on a 30g tank hanging over it at 1ft. tank is about 19x30x12 . also if it will would a dimmerbe recommended not to over heat the tank?

i´d say that´s far to much light for that small tank.

I dont think you can use a dimmer with MH......
12" above the tank would be ok.....also run a fan across the top to keep cool...
