View Full Version : Major Skimmer Issues: What am I doing wrong?

I have a recirculating, dual Beckett. It needs constant adjustment.

Here is what I do, starting with both supply and recirculating pump off:1.) Insure that both air intakes are fully open.
2.) Turn on supply pump, a Quiet One rated at ~400gph @ O head (head is approximately 18").
3.) Adjust gate valve until volume in tube is steady, approximately 4" above the recirculating box per manufacturer's instructions.
4.) Close both air intakes.
5.) Turn on recirculating pump and re-adjust, using the gate valve, the tube's volume.
6.) Wait thirty minutes to insure that volume is steady.
7.) Open both air intakes.
8.) Return after any given time to check skimmate.
9.) Notice that tube volume is "bad" again.
10.) Start tube volume adjustment again..
I notice that the volume in the Beckett tubes is constantly above the Beckett's own holes but never above the air intake position. I have been told this is normal.

What gets me is the constant tweaking that this skimmer requires. It simply will not maintain a consistent volume.

HELP!!

TIA!!
