Do volitans lionfish typically eat snails? What about hermit crabs? Serpent starfish? Which invertebrates will they usually eat?

Thanks for the help.

I have small hermits and snails in with my russelles and it doesn't even look at them.

Most lions leave snails, cukes, hermit crabs, starfish alone.
However not all inverts are safe, they will definaterly down shrimps and mobile crabs

Lionfish only eat things they can swallow in one bite. They can't tear off chunks of things, so serpent starfish are safe. For the similar reasons they really don't eat snails or hermits because they won't eat the shell. As Fmarini said though, they do love to eat shrimps and crabs.

Sounds like I'll be safe, then. Thanks everyone for the help.

FMarini-- I read and enjoyed your lionfish article a few years back in Advanced Aquarist. It was very informative.
