It’s been setup since January 15, 2007. I had a nasty ich outbreak back in March that decimated all my fish so I let the tank sit until just recently, doing 20% water changes every month due to the fact there was very little bio load.

I recently added a mated pair of clowns who are doing well. They are the only fish I have and plan on having in the tank. Other inhabitances are a skunk cleaner shrimp, two peppermint shrimp, many snails who have spawned as I see hundreds of tiny snails climbing the glass and rock work. A few red and blue leg hermit crabs and a small BTA that decided to climb in the back of the rockwork and call it home, so I can only see him when I look through a small crevice in the cave at the center.

Corals include pom pom xenia, light blue mushrooms and some orange and light yellow zoa’s who have thrived over the past several months without fish in the tank. There also is some macro algae that is growing in the back left corner that I prune about once a month. It’s not too unsightly so I let it grow to export nutrients.

I have a MJ1200 as a return pump as well as a MJ1200 closed loop that is DIY. I run carbon and Purigen 24/7/365. I change the filter floss behind the intake grate once a week with my water changes of 20% (5 gallons) every other week.

I plan on adding more zoa’s of other colors and a small toadstool leather. Simplicity is the look I’m going for with ease of maintenance.

Do you find that your water temps get higher than you'd like? We are just cycling our first tank, also a 24g DX with a maxijet 1200. I'm concerned that the 1200's wattage is putting out too much heat (the water is ranging from 80-82, with the heater set at 78. So I'm curious about your experience, especially since I'm thinking we might eventually add a koralia (which would mean more watts in the tank!)

Thanks. And a very nice tank!

In the winter I never have a problem. Although in the summer I need to keep the feeding door opened a bit to allow more water to evaporate and keep the temp down. 80-82 is normal for me as well, even with two MJ1200’s
