View Full Version : is my powerhead to powerfull for my tank ?

i have a 39" x 12" x 30" tank ( 120 litre/ 30ukg ) i have a rio 1100 powehead and a aquaclear 30. is my rio 1100 to powerfull for the tank ?? am i better off having a couple of smaller poweheads ?

your always better off having multiple little pumps VS one big one IMO. This way you can create more random turbulent flow!

Depends on what you want to keep. having so much flow from one outlet could limit your stocking potential. You could divide the Rio into spraybars to break it up if you like.

gd idea. id never thought about putting a spraybar on a powerhead ( silly me ) ill give that a go. it just seems that everything blows around a bit and they only give a very pinpointed flow direction. cheers

I don't think it's a problem. Before I bought my Tunze Nano pumps, I had a Seio 1100 and an 820 in my 54 corner. It really depends on where you place the pump.

the pump is in the back right corner.. and only has a 1 directional flow. str8 forward. ive fitted a small diffuser to it . so that it isnt so harsh. but i still find it makes things a bit mad in there. gna buy a nano nd see how it goes !
