in a FOWLR, you shouldn't need to do much beyond regular water changes.

test for ca/alk and adjust as need.

If you have shrimp or will be adding them or coral, you'll have to start dosing calc, alk, etc., and I'd also suggest DT phytoplankton. Shrimp require the calc. in their normal molting and growth process. Both calc and alk are a must because without alk, the calcium will not be absorbed properly. Do some further research in Reef Central. Iodine will also benefit a reef tank. Just make sure you don't over dose, especially the alk and iodine.

if you do regular water changes don't worry about ever having to dose iodine. that will be all in the salt mix. just test for alk., mag, and cal. and you'll be fine however you prob. don't need to add anything to a FOWLR tank if you just do your regular weekly water changes.

Don't dose, what you don't test!!
It's like driving blindfoldered with a map telling you where to turn, they both end up the same way.

A Crash.
Test then dose.

If you don't have tests kits for it , don't add it! Its very easy to throw a system out of balance by adding supplements that are not needed.
