FYI - Picasso's have arrived @ saltwaterfish.com

I received an email today from saltwaterfish.com stating that they have ORA Picasso Clowns in stock. I ordered one for a potential mate to my Rod's Onyx Clown. I am very interested to see what kind of morph I receive. $99 and free shipping. However, they did tack on a $9.99 packaging fee and a $9.99 surcharge fee. That's ok, that lso had some really great other specials.

This may be a gamble...we'll have to see what I get!!!

Good luck!!!

I wish I had that kind of cash to blow on a fish.....the marine biology dept at my HS is going to be breeding clowns and these will be one of the ones we intend on breeding.

I emailed saltwaterfish to inquire about a pair, and said I'd pay immediately. I asked for specimen pics and they wouldn't do it. Dunno if I'd pay for a picasso that looks just like a true perc, ala their website pic

fish that really looks nothing like their stock photo. They didnt even really bother to answer my question, they copied and pasted the description of the picasso. Yours is gorgeous but Im a little shy about spending money with the reply they gave me. I might have to anyway.

Do you guys happen to know how many they got in? Perhaps I should call them

$99 seems like a HUGE! mark up.

I thought people were getting them for $30-$50 through their LFSs.

But if you want one that bad........

BTW, they don't have them listed "in stock" anymore.

Phender your are correct. LFS and online retailers are marking them up double or triple normal mark up. It never fails when there is a new craze for retailers to jack up the price on livestock and people to pay it. Im also guilty of paying the jacked up price but I am pleased with the ones I have.

I have bought two from them but one passed away a few days after arriving. He wouldn't eat while the other ate like a pig. Tried everything and nothing worked. I think he may have had a parasite (had white stringy poop when he was first introduced) which seems slightly improbable. Just waiting for them to get them back in stock again to order another.

When I first started looking into them over a year ago, ORA told me they go for around $50. Nowadays it seems like $99 to $120 is the cheapest that they can be found for.

they are sold from ORA at $50. then the retailer marks them up.

I thought Oama said that ORA priced they so that the retail price should be about $50. I could be wrong.

ORA's price to the retailer I had heard was $12. The retail price was $50 according to the person that I contacted awhile back, I think I still have the email from them. The retailer is the one doubling and tripling the retail consumer cost of picassos. Meaning, instead of me paying $50 like ORA told me, I paid $100 because saltwaterfish.com cranked the price up.

Believe me, they are a lot more than $12 wholesale.

not to mention ORA probably sells to retailers at different prices as well.

I guess when about 1% of all the babies have picasso markings and they are in suh high demand then they can raise the price.

The 1% figure is from ORA in an old email I found.

WOW!! I paid $225 bucks for my mated pair of ORA picassos that I got from my lfs. And I thought I got a bargain! Compared to what one on-line vendor is asking, $350 for pair! I guess it's the old "supply and demand" thing? ;)

Here are a few pics after adding the little guy to my tank. The 2nd pic shows off his little orange dot within the white stripe. It will be interesting to see if even more white develops as the clown gets older. His markings are pretty cool for ordering a fish sight unseen.

Awww... I'm sorry. Fortunately, mine both are doing well thus far. I think I've had them for 2-3 weeks. (It's been a crazy couple of weeks, and most of the time I don't even know what day it is!)

BTW, I'm SO jealous of your anemones!
