Hi, I know a lot of people have changed out the stock return pump of the NC24 to a maxi-jet 1200. I did the same thing but ended up adding another maxi-jet 1200 to the second chamber to add more flow. With the addition of a THIRD pump for my chiller I am running out of space in my rear chambers. I want to now add a refugium to my 2nd chamber and need to somehow reduce the amount of equipment in my rear sumps.

So my question is, would it be okay to replace the maxi-jet 1200 for a pump that pushes out 700-900 gph? That way I can go from two return pumps down to one, saving me space and allowing me to put the refugium in the 2nd chamber. Is this possible? I know most people are worried about the wattage from a higher GPH pump, but since I have a chiller I'm not too worried about the extra heat. Any suggestions?

I would ditch the large back pump idea totally and get a couple 6025's or koralia, and just do 1 mj1200 for return. I ran 2 maxis in the back, then tried a rio 6HF, then went to a couple koralia, then tunze. Low draw and more flow that can be directed as needed. It does take a little space up, but i think it's worth it if you need the space in the back.

That was actually my plan B, to get a couple of koralia nano's or 1's and put them in the tank instead. I was worried that I'd get a sandstorm from the koralia's.

I have 2 Koralia #1's, one at each end of the tank aimed down and toward the middle. No sandstorm, you will be suprised at how gentle the flow is from those things.
