I'm making a DIY canopy and trying to figure out what paint to use on the inside. Does anyone know what would work the best to prevent humidity from being absorbed into the particle board?

Thanks in advance,
Clint

I was told High gloss white paint and/or something else i can't think of what it was... I just picked up wood last night for my canopy so I'll be tagging along

I'm getting ready to paint my canopy (just made it yesterday). I bought some Rust-Oleum Marine Coatings Topside (made for boats and stuff above the waterline) paint from Lowes to do the inside. I got some gloss white to help "reflect" as much light as possible. Since you used particle board to make it I would put a few heavy coats on there to make sure it's sealed.

white epoxy paint. sold as "appliance paint"

HD carries it as spray on or brush.

I'm confused by this. I would think that gloss would be the more reflective of the two. Why is flat?

Same here gloss would be shinny and reflect more light? So just spray paint enough to seal the wood?

Kilz can be found at Lowe's or Home Depot. I live in Florida and it has a good reputation for keeping salt water out of wood. Around here a nice breeze means everything gets coated with salt spray.

I did the inside of my stand and my canopy with white marine enamel. I sealed it first with Kilz and then with 3 coats of white marine enamel. Been over a yr and still just wipes clean of salt residue, no yellowing in the canopy and still looks like the day I did it. Just wish the hinges lasted as long in the salt vapor....
