I was wondering if you could tell me if there is any upcoming meetings that would be good or ok for just starting in hobby.

easiest way is to look in the local club forums towards the bototm of the site. there's a few in PA that may be local enough for you

You just missed one of the biggest conventions of the year, MACNA. It was held in Pittsburgh this year. There is a rather large Frag Swap next weekend in Columbus, OH. There are usually 350 people or so and a pretty big raffle. It is sponsored by the local club CORA.
