Hi
I am currently using a reef-octopus dnw 110 skimmer on my 70g reef system. The skimmer works really well.
Recently I was offered a grotech 150 hea (brand new) and quite cheep.

I wonder if I should prefer the grotech on the octopus…

Hi guys
Based on experience can the Grotech HEA150 support successfully a 500 liter sps tank? It will be heavy loaded with fish and corals.

Thanks

hi!
i owned one and yes, they are excellent skimmers...now the thing to really do with a cheap hea 150 would be to put a mesh modded impellar and make an aspirating venturi out of the volute and run it like that. or find a way to put a modded 1250 from ATB on there, you'd just have to redo the recirc plumbing for the nw/mesh eheim.
but out of the box i'd say they are great for up to probably 100g, but heavily loaded 120 is pushing it, get something else...
like the cnc marine 250s skimmer for $325
