Hey, here are some pictures of my 180 gallon reef tank! My room-mate and I have been working on this for the past couple weeks and finally got the rocks and coral like we want them. Although every time we look at it we think of different things that could be done to make it look better... Its a 180 gallon tank, 40 gallon Berlin sump, ASM-3 protein skimmer, 1 Mag 1200 and 1 Mag 900, 3 - 250 watt metal halides, 4 - 96 watt VHO bulbs, Dual stage drop in chiller, I think thats it....

We designed this tank so that we wouldn't have the need for any power heads in the tank because I dont like how they look...

Here is a live stock list:
- 4 false percs (now 2 pairs)
- 1 skunk clown
- 2 Blue tangs
- 3 Big green/Blue chromis
- 1 Purple psudo
- 1 coral beauty
- 1 Naso tang
- 1 sailfin tang
- 1 chevron tang
- 2 scotter blennies
- 1 watchman
- 1 dragon/sand sifting blenny
- 1 fire shrimp
- 2 arrow crabs
- 1 green crab
- all kinds of hermits and snails
---- I know that I left something out...

Just let me know what you think! I will try to snap some new pictures later because some things have been moved around!

Thanks Erik

Thanks!

I wouldn't do 4 in a 55 gallon. That might be pushing it. The only reason why I have 4 is because I have over 300 pounds of live rock to provide them with alot of cover in case aggression occured... I also put the 4 in at the same time... Although when I first put them in there was some mild aggression, but that stoped after a couple days and they paired off.. After I noticed that the false percs wouldn't use the anemone, I bought a skunk clown to use it and keep it happy!

If you were going to try to put 4 clowns in a 55, definatly go with false percs. But I would advise not doing so. I only keep a pair in a 75 gallon...

Thanks Erik

Very nice. Can you say what K ratings your lights are. I am building a 225 gallon tank right now and I'm wondering what lights I should use.

Hey! I beleive that there are 2 that are 10,000K and 1 that is 13,000K.... Im not really 100% sure though because since they are on right now its hard to read the bulb.... But I know for sure 2 are 10,000K.

Thanks Erik

Hey, It is really all dependant on the size of the tangs that you want... I have some smaller tangs going in my 75 reef, but when they grow to big I will either have to trade them for smaller ones or just buy a bigger tank for them. It depends on what you can do.

Also you want to try to keep tangs that have dissimilar body shapes together. I have found that in smaller tanks (smaller then 150), dissimilar body shaped tangs are the best way to go. Also I wouldn’t add an aggressive tang to a tank about 100 gallons with any community fish because sometimes they will get picked on easier because of less room in the tank.

Thanks Erik

For 100g, I wouldn't go any bigger than a Kole or Tomini Tang. You could possibly do a Yellow or a Purple, but one or the other.

I also wouldn't put more than two smaller species in a 100.

Just my two cents.

How did you achieve the flow that you wanted without power heads?
