My tank is about 5 months old with great chemistry right now. I have been dosing with seachem reefcomplete and my coraline is growing very fast, I recently noticed two of these things growing out of the rock as well. It kinda looks like some sort of coral (I hope... I hope). Anyway you can gauge the size by the zoes just above it.

The thing is almost microscopic....but it does actually look like tiny white strands are coming out of the spires.

It's an arborescent foraminifera called Homotrema rubrum. Forams are single cell animals that secrete hard shells & feed by extending pseudopodia (the white strands) to collect food. Harmless & beneficial. You can learn more about them in this RK article: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-07/rs/index.php

Looks like Homotrema rubrum, a foraminiferan. Harmless filter feeder, actually related to amoebae more than anything.

Edit: darnit, beat me to it! But Leslie probably didn't have to google her way there, either.
