Greetings All-
I'm in the initial planning stages of a January vacation, and I've decided on the DR. I'm hoping to do a few days of diving on the south side of the island, possibly Catalina as well, and spend a few other days of the trip doing more inland things. Are there any dive resorts and/or operators that anybody would seek out or absolutely avoid? Any other travel advice for this destination would be welcome as well.

Just got back from the DR on tuesday. I went on 2 dives in Punta cana with PADI, 15 meeters each dive, was a blast and would recommend doing atleast one.

25 years of diving the DR is my least favorite spot to dive. One trip was all I needed and it was my last. There are so many better options in the Caribbean or Mexico that make the DR look like you are in a murky pool. Do your research. The DR is not well known for great diving. If you have nothing to compare it to that it might suit your needs. The cenote dive I did inland was very very good but that was all I liked.

Please don't even say Boanaire and th DR in the same breath! :eek1:
They don't even come close. The DR is not as bad as diving in a lake but there really is not much to see compared to other places and the reefs are not that well populated.
