I am new to SH, but would like to get a pair of erectus for my aquatic science class at school.

I have
Ehiem Pro II canister filter 240gph flow is this enough flow for the whole tank. I know canisters arent the best but is it good could i make it work? I would put the SH in a 30 gallon with live rock and artificial corals for hitching posts. Could I use lr from my 75 gal sps tank or could this introduce pathogens? Is a chiller necessary or could i just use a heater set at 73-74?

Thanks for any help or advice you can give me. It is very much appreciated

The canister filter is fine ... many seahorse keepers use them. If you clean it often it can do a great job. The 240GPH rated output should be fine too as it should experience head loss. Consider adding an airline in case the canister pump craps out (No airstone, just the line). Horses like to play in the bubbles too.

Many people use live rock with their seahorses, but there is a slight risk ... your call. Don't use any LR that has been exposed to seahorses in the past though. Personally, I lean toward a more sterile environment and prefer starting with dry rock.

A chiller typically isn't necessary for erectus. You've obviously done some research, as you are shooting for a good temp range (73-74). I use a 6" office clip-on fan on one of my tanks when it gets hot. Drops the temp by 4-5 degrees.

Thanks for the reply. I think i will go with dry rock like you said just to be safe and will add an airline in their too.

Thanks
