Skimmer also great idea but can be done without.

Does it just take longer without the skimmer? Is there a way to get coraline growing on it before going into the tank or not really?
How often should one change out the water?

No offence intended - but if your concerned about coraline during the curing process your going to be a very frustrated SW Aquarist - this is a hobby where slow is good ... and fast is bad.

Patience is a virtue in this hobby and those who try to accelerate the process tend to end up with problems.

Rock takes time to cure and you can't improve the process ... same goes with cycling and most of everything else in this hobby.

I understand that. I have always bought rock that was cured not uncured. Hence why I asked. I do know it takes time. Was just wondering if some people have done things to do this thats all.

If you're looking to get rock that's already got coraline on it, try to get it from a local reefer who is tearing down a tank. You can usually get it for a great deal, and it's already established.

Suppose I should have been a little more specific when I posted this. What I am getting is rock that was once in a tank but has been removed put in a storage container with Salt water and power heads but no heat or light and been stored like that. 30 lbs has been like that for over 2 months and 20 lbs I am getting is from an old LFS that closed its doors and has been in saltwater and waterflow for almost 2 yrs. Will this need to be cured or not really?

its probably already cured, but still put it in a separate container and test the water in a few days just to be sure
