I ordered an octopus hob skimmer from you guys about a week ago...order #6102. It has been running great, but yesterday one of the pumps shut off on me. I unplugged it and plugged it back in, still nothing. I let it sit for a few hours and plugged it in, it then worked. As i write this, the same thing happened just a few min ago. I looked over and the pump was not pumping, then 3 sec later it kicked back in. I am guessing it is overheating. Anything you guys can do for me? Is it covered under a warranty of some sort? TIA

-Mike

Hi Mike,
I will talk to Dave at CoralVue first thing on Monday to check if he encountered this type of problem with these pumps before.
If there is no easy fix, we'll just send you a new pump.

Hi Albert
Why does that pump look different than the pump that my skimmer comes with? It looks like this and that pump looks like its used for the insump skimmers instead of the hang ons.

its the same, just minus the suction cups on the bottom. And the grey intake port is covered up by the slotted covers ( they can be pulled off)

Hi Albert
I was wondering if you have any information regarding the hang on octopus BH 100 and the genx 1500 pumps. I have been reading that alot of people are getting genx 1500 pumps with that skimmer and was wondering why they arent getting resuns anymore.

Happyface888,
All our Octopus hang-on units come with Resun pumps. I talked to David at Coralvue about this and he's not aware of any units that utilize gen-x pumps.
Those units could be the ones distributed by Pacific Coast which is also a master distributor of gen-x pumps.

Does anyone know what is the maximum size of aquarium BH-100F can accomodate? The aquacave website does not provide info as to the size of tank. I am setting up an 140 g medium load reef tank and need to have an HOB skimmer since I will not have a sump. So I was looking to buy this model but do not know if it's the right size??? Thanks much!

vikusik,
BH-100F will do fine on tanks up to 75 gal.
For 140 gal system I would look into Remora Pro with Mag pump or Aquamedic's Multi.

Dam it! I really likes the fact that you could use carbon filters with that model :( . I heard more negative things about remora than positive. I will do some reserach on the aquamedics ... Thanks!

Hi, it's me again! What about HB-300? It says that this skimmer is rated up to 150 gallons? Has anyone had any experience with this one? Can I add carbon filet to it? Thanks much!

vikusik,
HB300 is another alternative. It will allow you to place filter media bag in the discharge chamber located between two skimmers.
