that is one of my favorite corals, even though the pick does not show the true beauty.

Here is mine from about 6 months ago...it is a lot bigger now :D. I keep it up fairly high off to the side.

That's insane. Can't wait to get one. What kind of shape do they take as they grow? ie, bushy, stag like, branched?

Thanks :D. I'd say moderate growth overall. The growth pattern is branching with a leaning towards bushy.

Here is picture of mine from about 3 months ago.
The colors are brighter now this was when it was settling into a new tank upgrade:)
I have mine up high in the tank, w/good random flow seems to be a good grower.

bad pic, taken high up under a 150watt phoenix bulb, not sure why it came out so blue, my camera has an auto- white balance, colors are about the same though

i actually got it for $5, when it looked like this, and brought it back to looking good in about 2 weeks!:

It's kept about 10" from the surface.

The 250W MH is about 12" above the surface.

i have some prime real estate about 12" under a 250w bulb. i have a few other corals that need to go up into the rock work, so im not really sure where this ones going yet. it seems like you guys are all saying up towards the top though.

I was told this was an ORA german green when I got it a year ago (it was free, so i didn't care).. It was a 1" frag and has grown like crazy since then-

Has this been most peoples' experience? I think I need to move mine down...

SDguy,
Mine looks like your picture above. Where is yours placed?

Mine's super high up. I just ran out of room, at the time, lower down. I always said I would put piece lower again, once it grew to fraggable size, but it hasn't grown terribly fast for me :(

got a good top down shot tonight; i'll take another in a week or so to see any color changes, as i'm confident it will shift somewhat. it has been in medium lighting, and i just replaced an 19 month old aquaconnect 14k above it with reeflux 12k. i'm going back to the aquaconnects, just thought i would run this in the meantime as i had it lying around.

Anyone have an idea on the species of this piece?

Not that it matters, I still want one.

i haven't been able to come up with one yet. iirc, dustin dorton said it came from the red sea via germany, so that should narrow it down some. i've found some species that look similiar in veron, but they arent' present in the red sea, so i have crossed them off

you can easily get a frag from live aquaria if you don't mind paying the 100% markup from what LFS sell it for...... lol

really! wow....

$70 for a 1" frag of it sounds absurd to me. i got my first frag of it about a year ago, for $30 (1.5" 2 branches).

then i got another frag of it that was much bigger around 2" with 4-5 small branches for $40.

locally, i've seen it for sale at $30, $37, and $40....all around 1.5"-2" with multiple (~5) branches.

same goes with the roscoe's acro.

cool, hmmm, so why did you get two?

surfnvb7

well, the first one i got from a place which had a colony, and had actually gotten the frag over a year before hand ORA (i.e. 2 years ago from now)

it started to turn yellow on me (kinda like in twon8's picture).

and i saw the new ones released last winter had a much richer green color (and they were bigger than the frag i currently had). so i decided to get one to see if they ended up being different.

after a couple of months they ended up being the same. so i traded the 1st one away since it was smaller.

this one was labeled $30. i got it for $26 with tax because im a member of my local reef club. i though it was a good price, and i couldnt get over the dark blue polyps.

Just picked up a frag of this one less than 2 weeks ago and I LOVE it! It has already shown some growth. :)

My pictures stink, but here it is anyway:
