Not too strong a current, rather moderate. they need light, nosdt too much , 6500 oK minimum, using metal halide, t 5, vho or power compact. receiving it at least l2 hours daily, use actinics too. feed it once a week with mussels, scallops, or fish fillet. the are truly wonderful. i have one with 5 off springs and they are quite big and look awesome.

I don't want to be negative, but you should know this stuff before buying such a sensitive animal.

The anemone will find a spot it likes in your tank. It will find the flow and light it likes. What kind of lighting do you have?

I agree with the haste. The #1 rule is research.

But even though , dont let this discourage you from asking any question you want in here , no question to dumb. We just have the reefers headrush and makes us say things we dont really mean . :)

These guys will live in alomst any light BUT not well. For the least amount of problems the lighting is best whene its higher.

Flow dont matter , just keep your system in the recommended flow rate . He will move around the tank to find a spot that he likes. Sometimes in a spot you dont want but thats reefing.

If the flows to low and the light not high enough he will always move around and may bother or even kill other coral in his quest for " the right spot " Gl

My bubble tips like good current, and two of three like strong light. The third one just moved from the side of his rock (in the light) to the bottom of the rock in a cave! He just ate the other day so I assume he is ok....

Well lighting was never an issue i would say. Just be sure you have good flow and he will be happy. My tomato clowns love him.

Oh also they eat cocktail shrimp , im sure you know . But restricking the amount he eats will keep him from growing so fast. Great newbie guy but can get large and even split. To big or to many not good for other coral.

How long have you had him and whene was the last time he ate?
Also when they expose of there waste they will shrink and open the mouth.

well with the MH right over your center brace your not getting much light in the tank as the best part of light from a MH unit is right below it. IMO not enough for the anemone

thats what it looks like so no need to be worried

10/21/2007, 09:59 PM
sam what do you think i need to do

kau_cinta_ku
10/21/2007, 10:04 PM
that is one prob. with 36" tanks and finding lighting for them. as the center barce is in the way. your best bet would be to find a fixture with 2 150 watt mh or do a retro kit with 2-150 watt mh. or just go with a good quality T5HO fixture. that is what i used on my 36" long tank as i didn't want 2 mh over it i just used a 4-39 watt icecap T5 retro. worked great and could keep anything I wanted.

but a hint. if you go T5HO's make sure you get one that has individual reflectors for each bulb and not 1 reflector for all the bulbs

How did you acclimate it? Generally speaking, drip acclimation for about 2 hours is recommended.

md0760

dripped for 2 hrs. woke up this morning and it was open but was on one of my brain corals so moved the coral and the bubble tip deflated again

I am going to add my two cents in here if ya don't mind :)

How long has the tank been set up? What are the current water parameters at? What is the temperature? What type of coral/fish do you have in the tank? What type of lighting was over the tank that you bought it from?

We need as much information about your system as possible to help you out. BTA's generally take up to a week to acclimate themselves to your system. They will shrivel to nothing and have an open mouth. If it does not inflate over the course of a day, and it's mouth continues to gape, you may have a problem. It is not uncommon for them to continuously inflate/deflate during their first week in your tank.

As for feeding, IF you use any meat from the grocery store, make sure it is raw and wash it very well. I use a combination of several different foods for my BTA's and I soak them in Selcon as well.

cardinal fish or chromis are fun. but the damsel may not want anything new as they can be fairly territorial.

or you could prob even try a dwarf angel. some are fairly safe with corals.

oh it just must be the lighting that makes it look like a big bleached SPS coral. but looks like the colt is doing well if it is that size

md0760
10/22/2007, 10:13 PM
yes the small frag on the lower rt corner is a frag ffrom the larger colt
