aquapod hood?

i have an aquapod with the hood that is attached to the actual tank. is that removable? can i remove it and use something to place it a couple of inches from the top of the tank? the hood has really been bugging me!

the ap hood is removeable and it can be upgraded to the sunpod hqi system
