Octopus hang on with surface skimmer

Hi
Does the skimmer box get submerged all the way in the water? It looks like the intake is a tad long. Would like some info on this skimmer. And also how does the skimmer box look for this hang on?

Hi,
Picture shows standard hang-on model.
Unit with pre-skimmer has a little different design.
On pre-skimmer model main skimmer box is located on the out the aquarium.
Skimmer pump is placed inside the skimmer so the only parts that are located inside the tank are pre-skimmer box (approx. 2" x 2") and discharge pipe.
