Possible to have a skimmer that's rated too high? I can fit some skimmers nearly three times my water volume rate.......
I just want the best...............
thanks.

IMO you can neaver overskim I have a css220 on a 22g nano and i fell that I could go larger with no prob. What a skimmer is rated for cut it atleast in half and thats more like the actual rating.

It is possible to overskim. A skimmer will take out disolved solids indescriminatly ... both good and bad stuff. You can skim your trace elements right out of the water.
That said, I'm grateful for every ounce of nasty skimate my skimmer pulls out. I can't imagine wanting any of it to remain in the tank.

A 220 on a nano:eek: Is it in a sump or what happens when the 3 or so gallons of water in a power outage. I agree that skimmers are overrated a lot of the times, but 10x I don't know.

I have an RC-1000 on my 60gal Frag tank with one tang in it and a few frags. Its probably overkill. I will eventually (hopefully Soon) hook a 450gal tank into the system.

What is the basis for that opinion? In actuality, there is limited scientific basis for that conclusion. See, e.g. http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-12/rs/feature/index.php
