View Full Version : adding frag tank

im planning on adding a 35G fragging/pod culturing tank to my system. its all set up and ready to be plumbed. however i was wondering what was the best way to hook this tank up to my main tank safely without killing my corals or fish? i have ~30G total system water volume in my current set up. should i just get so cured LR from my LFS and throw it in and just circulate the water in the frag tank until the cycles over? or could i just leave the LR out and just turn on my sump pump and change about of a 1/3 of the freshly mixed new tank water with my current tank water every 5 days or so, sort of like 3 1/3 water changes? and then add a little cured LR after? and im not sure if this will make a diffrence in cycle time but im using a tiled bottom, not sand. and help would be great thanks.

I would add some water every couple of days to resemble water changes.

I'd also not "cutlure" pods in the tank with frags. NOw just letting them use the frag tank as a refugium hooked to the main system is one thing, culturing them is something a little more involved and would require large amounts of phytoplankton.

ok separate tank to grow pods.... i was wondering if you can start a phyto culture using live DT's or such a product? i haven't found any places in Canada that sell the culture disks.
