I'm looking for a skimmer for a 90 aga. I realize this could turn into a debate. Could you give me good brands or the brands to avoid. I plan on building a sump out of a 30. What is a good size footprint to leave for it.

I have a 20 gal sump for my 135 and a DAS EX-1, works great and it is quiet. Had a Euroreef skimmer, too noisy and not worth the money.

I would get a recir NW type.

Deltec, H&S, Euro-reef, DAS, and octopus all make good recir NW skimmers.

Now you just have to find what will fit and how much you want to spend.

I would stay away from in-sump NW skimmers.

I run a DAS ex-2, really good performing skimmer.

I just bought a H&S 250... great skimmer. I would highly suggest the H&S line of skimmers

The 90g stand is probably 18" wide from back to front. If you can fabricate your 30g sump to be 16" wide, you probably can almost fit any skimmer that is properly sized for a 90g tank. If you have the luxury of space, why dont make the skimmer section 16" x 16" and you should be able to fit almost anything in that section plus other in sump equipment right next to it.
