Hello,

I am attempting to assemble my tank right now. I moved up to a RR90 AGA with a mega over flow kit, a mag 7 as my return, an octopus 150 for a skimmer, still looking for a 20L for my sump. I want to know what I can use for aggregate. I thought I had seen a post on this subject a while ago(month+) and now I cannot find it. Anyway what kind of sand should I use? I thought most people recommend staying away from "live" sand especially if you are going to do LR. Will a type of play sand work, or do i really need to buy the special stuff my LFS sells?

Thanks!

I am using pool filter sand. No DSB though. I left that for the fuge.

I wasnt going to do a deep bed in the tank. I am saving that for the refugium and some LR rubble in the sump.

Where do you purchase swimming pool sand?

I thought that was the thread, but that was the one I used to decide on a shallow bed. I am still looking for info on the type of aggregate.

Ah, I use the finest-grained substrate available, because they seem the easiest to keep clean. If you want to have some tunneling animals, though, they might prefer other sizes.

Any silica or calcium carbonate sand should be fine if it looks good to you, and doesn't drive you bankrupt.
