Does anyone have any experience with the Hawaiian Black Triggerfish or Black Durgon, Melichthys niger in a reef aquarium.

Not the best fish for long term captivity unless you're going to upgrade to a huge tank and excessive filtration. I had one a few years ago in a 450g reef. I bought it around 4" and it easily grew to around 8" in the first year and slowed down around 10" toward the end of the 2nd year. It ate a ton and got very robust and added way to much nutrients to my tank so I got rid of it. It was a great community fish but not a great reef tank fish. They also sometimes eat snails, hermits, and more than likely shrimp.
