Can I place a 150w DE retro over a glass brace or would that break the glass after a while? I know not a lot of light would get though but the only thing under the brace are a couple of lps corals and a couple of montiporas.

It won't break the glass. You have to have a piece of glass shielding double ended bulbs anyway, for UV. My HQI light has a piece of glass covering the entire reflector about 2 inches from the bulb. I would be more worried about plastic or silicone melting if the bulb was to close.
