I just set up my auto top off. I have water in a 5 gallon bucket next to the tank. My question is it seems to go on maybe every hour to 2 hours and lets a little water in the tank. is this normal? I am going to time and see how long it takes to go through 5 gallons on 120 gallon tank with 40 gallon sump. How much evaporation occurs throughout the week I know it depends on the weather or humidity. But its getting cold in CT so I dont think that the heat should be a factor. Any input would be appreciated.

I used to go through 5 gal a day on my 90gal. I'd imagine 5 gal on a 120 might get you through 1 day but not much longer. You're gonna need to get a 35gal + container to make the top off worth your while.

Cold weather means turning on the heat. If you furnace doesn't have a humidifier the evaportion rate usually increases substantially. Three to five gallons a day is not unusual for that size tank. I wouldn't worry about it.

yeah I wanted to orgainally have a hose pump my water up from the basement I am just not sure what pump I would need cause now I am using a MJ 600 powerhead. I dont think that is going to work to pump 8 feet vetically
