I have a 36x15X15 and have a 2x96w PC setup right now. Im thinking of hanging a 250w 14-15k MH with a plane-jane parabolic reflector. I think it will be fine and should be able to keep clams, some sps and some lps, just thought i would get some other oppinions.

I would get a lumenarc or other reflector, but its winter and work is slow, so budget cant support it right now :D.

I have a 36*24*18 tank and its being lit by one 175W 14K Iwasaki bulb on an icecap ballast. It seems perfect to me. Its in a 3' pfo hood with 2 vhos helping out. But the iwasaki bulb beats most 14-15K 250W bulbs out there in terms of par.

what kind of relector? im just wondering if the parabolic reflector is going to give me enough coverage to span all 36" without black spots

This is the one.

I was worried at first and going to go with a lumenarc but I really wanted the vhos and needed a hood. I have the hood about one inch from the water surface and the spread is great. The reflector is actually lined throughout the hood and not just at the bulb, so you get some reflection down at the ends. I haven't take par measurements and remember, as always, this is just one person's opinion. Try to see some tanks with lighting in person if you can.
