Any thoughts on ASM G-1 Skimmer?

it claims to be a knock off euro reef but says the only difference is its made out of pvc not acrylic. the euroreef it is compared to is this one im pretty sure but its a lot more loot.

I've *heard* the ASMs in general are low quality/overpriced although I have never personally owned one.

I have sold/used dozens of ASM skimmers. IMO they are the best performing skimmer for the dollar. HOWEVER-----they did just switch to a Rio pump and I HATE Rio's. I have seen many tanks destroyed by them. See if you can get one with the old Sedra pumps. If so, they are a very efficient skimmer with a great bang for the buck.

I went with the Octopus NW200 instead of the comparable ASM because it was more than $100 cheaper and the ASM looked mickey mouse the way the body, fittings and cup are made.. Just looked cheesey.

I have had an ASM G2 for over two years. I did a recirc and direct feed mod to it and I have been fairly happy with its performance. Even without the mods it performed well, but it performed even better with the mods (inexpensive).

I would head to the Lighting, filtration and equipment forum and check out the ASM thread for more input on their skimmers,

I have an ASM G1 skimmer. It's price helped me keep startup costs down two years ago. I bought it used. I replaced the Sedra pump six months ago.

Before you spend $184:00 Bucks on a 5.5 inch skimmer check out The Reef octopus NW 200 they run around $200 for an eight inch skimmer, and are built better.
