How to quiet down RS-80 pump?

I just setup my skimmer and the pump on my RS-80 has a fairly loud hum to it. Is there anyway to quiet down the pump?

No idea, but let me know when you find out because mine hums like crazy. I had ER replace the impeller but it's still loud. I can't sit in the living room without the TV or some other noise going because the hum drives me crazy.

I had another ER model that did the same thing and ended up placing a silicone pad under the pump and skimmer and it did away with almost all of the hum...Just a thought to try.

I have three silicone pot holders under mine, it doesn't seem to make a difference unfortunately.

Mine was quite noisy as well when I first set it up. I've had it running for about 11 months now, it finally quieted down about 6 months ago.

I've done some research and it seems like a lot of people are having loud pumps with the RS 80. I would like to see a Euro-Reef rep chime in on this.

My RS100 uses the same Sedra 3500 and it's also rather loud. I use suction cups and added an airline silencer, but it's still very loud. I have an RS80 on the way as well and we'll see how it is.

I recently did that "herbie method" thing to quiet my overflow. Now that my overflow is silent, my RS80 is by far the loudest thing in my tank. The hummmmmmmmm is so loud, it drives me nuts.

I'm going to give them a call to see what they can do for me.....bad pump maybe? I can hear this thing upstairs in my bedroom when I sleep! My past two skimmers had been EuroReefs and the pumps on those were not even close to being as loud as my RS80. I love their products and they do a hell of a job skimming my tanks and I will continue to support them. Hopefully I can get this issue resolved.
