View Full Version : Stick with the XM's?

I run my single ended 250 watt metal halides on a 250watt HQI ballast. I've been using Iwasaki 6500k's and XM 10k's for the past 5 years, and would like to try something new. Are there any single ended bulbs that can produce as much growth as the XM 10k's on an HQI ballast? The Aquaconnect is too expensive, and I don't want to go with a bulb that is going to be a lot dimmer than my ultra bright XM bulbs. Maybe I should just stick with the XM's, since I haven't seen a single ended bulb out there that can beat their intensity and coral growing potential... I like the Hamilton 14k's, but they just aren't as bright. I would like a blue tint, but also want extreme intensity and PAR...

what if you had to choose between a blue tint and "extreme intensity," and you couldn't have both?

you say the aquaconnects are too expensive, but imo you can run them for 18 months easy; xm's are too dull after 9 months ime

I have good luck with reeflux 10k bulbs, there are not as yellow as the xm or iwasaki, I know the par is less, but my corals seem to react very nicely with these bulbs and growth has been very surprising.!!!:eek2: :bum: :eek1:

Twon, which bulbs do you use and what wattage?

I have 10K Reeflux and have great growth but I think I would still prefer a bluer looking bulb that has decent PAR.

Cool, I didn't know that. I'll check into the aquaconnects then. If I could run them for 2 years that would be awesome! What does everyone else think?
