Can someone tell me what experience they have had with the 12K 250W Reeflux bulbs as far as color and growth? I am thinking on updating my lighting and using LUMENARC reflctors and then the 12K bulbs! Would appreciate any advice!! Thanks!

DE or SE? DE on HQI ballast is white/blue. Not blue/white but white with a definite blue tint. They are reportedly bluer on electronic ballasts. I ran an electronic ballast for a little while and from memory, they were a little bluer than on the HQI.
They dont have a great deal of par however. You will also need blue or actinic supplemental flourescents if you want a strong blue presence. My current tank is not complete so I cannot comment on growth but there is a member here that runs the Reeflux 12K's on a 180 (I think it's a 180) and it is a fantastic looking reef. He may be running electronic ballasts as well, not sure. Maybe he will chime in or another member can remember his forum name. I will be running the new Iwasaki 250 watt DE when I stock but have been running these in the meantime and for a while now.

I ran one for like a week on a Magnetic ballast and week on HQI.

Didint really care for either. It was defiently more white than blue. I dont have room for atinics to help with the white. This was a SE bulb

WOW, thanks!! The reflectors there are the ones that I was planning on getting for my system and then use the 12K Reeflux bulbs. Right now I am using 2 20K radiums and a 6500 Iwasaki bulb... looks nice and the corals are growing, but its not really the color that i was looking for! So thanks for the link!

I would reccomend the 14K from Phoenix. It has much more blue than white. Great price too.

He is no longer using those reflectors. He put the Lumenbrites up in there place with the 12k reeflux bulbs. These Lumenbrite reflectors are much better in my opinion. Much less light bleads off out side of the tank and more light is hitting the bottom and sides of all his acros. I am currently setting up a 180gal and going to place 3 Lumenbrite minis with 250 12k Reeflux bulbs over it. I sold the lumenarc minis I had after viewing the changes in Mike's (acroporanuts) tank and how much better a perfect tank can get. I would contact Mike, he can tell you all about the Reeflux bulbs and can give you an honest comparison of the two reflectors.

you can see a pic of his tank here with his new lighting set up:

Notice how bright the bottom of the tank is and the absence of light excaping the tank on the back wall.
