And if you look at the next pic closely you can see the growth on three frags in it that are also in the following two photos, taken when I got them. I think it is about 4 months of growth. The milli is just going nuts right now, anf the other two are growing really well too. One has gotten really heairy with PE and is not as bright because of it, but ahs the same colored tips. I like it that way though.

I have an 72" aquatinics 14 bulb fixture.

Bulbs are (I can't remember what order they are in,but there is 7-36" bulbs on each side)
2 fiji purple
2 fiji red
4 aquablue (ati)
4 blue plus
2 uvl super actinic

I have no problem with green corals. I do however hate the bluish tint in the pictures. I may switch out one of the blue plus to a daylight (6500k) or maybe another aquablue.

The fish is a clown goby. Most sps owners do not like them because they nest in the sps corals. This one is a good guy so far. I have had him about a year now. I am going to be removing him shortly to place in a picco tank I am setting up. It is hard to see him in the larger tank. I am hoping to see him more in a smaller space. All in all, he has been a good resident and has never harmed anything.

Do the t-5s heat the tank much??? I know they don't get as hot as halides i just wanted to avoid having to purchase a chiller when good color and growth can be had using T-5s.

I have 4x54w and 2x39w icecap retros.

I run from front to back:

54w Blue Plus
39w Super Actinic
39w Blue Plus
54w Fiji Purple
54w Blue Plus
54w Aquablue

I keep the highest light at the back, where most of the SPS is, the front of my tank has a good amount of LPS, zoos and shrooms etc...

I used to think T5's made coral pale, but as I increased my collection I have found the opposite. What I though was the T5's was incorrect placement or just SPS that was just destined to fade regardless of light (wild or maricultured etc..). Even these have slowly gotten better with time...

All the aquacultured pieces I have gotten have done VERY well.

Oh and my profile is a joke :)

Very nice kurplunk! What's your lighting combo?

I'd love to see some more full tank shots, with lists of the T5 lighting combinations that you are using.

Here is my 65g with T5's:
http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x185/bradjenks/2007-10-07-----002.jpg

front to back
24w - ATI Blue Plus (Tek)
39w - UVL AquaSun (IceCap)
39w - ATI Blue Plus (IceCap)
39w - ATI AquaBlue (IceCap)
24w - ATI Blue Plus (Tek)

Thinking about adding another light on the IceCap, maybe a Fiji Purple or UVL Super Actinics....any recommendations?

It's just a standard AGA 65g, no overflow, no sump. I'm running a Tunze 9010 skimmer in-tank and a Tunze Nano Filter (to get some surface extraction).

Thanks for the generous comments guys. I didn't put too much thought into my light combo at the time of purchase. I am due for some new bulbs as it has been about a year now. I really like the color combos that people have with the ati and kz bulbs. MY lighting seems to look very white, but coral colors just pop and are true. Here is my combo:
Geissman Actinic +
" " Aquablue
" " Actinic +
" " Aquablue
" " Aquablue
" " Actinic+
" " Aquablue
" " Actinic +

6055's are great they allow for little to a ton of flow the power is in your hands with a controller :) i am actually going to down grade to 1 6055 bc they are so damn powerful! when the flow clashes with each other all you see is a rumble on the waters surface, and alot of water splash! so i think the return pump(400GPH) plus the Tunze about 1400GPH will be more than enough for my 24" long SPS tank.

CamBarr
11/13/2007, 11:25 AM
can you but them on a wave controller to speed them up and speed them & down in a sequence?

MADtanks
11/13/2007, 12:19 PM
yup, they are just like their counter parts(6000, 6100, 6200....) they can be put on the 7095 controller or on single controllers.... they can also be used with Neptunes AquaSurf that is used with any of their Aquacontroller line(well i think most of the controllers) the ones that cant be controlled are the 6025 and the 6045.

CamBarr
11/13/2007, 12:57 PM
Yea i have 6045s and in my new tank i wanted something that had variable speeds i was maybe thinking of going vortech but the coast is ........ ha ha new tan is a braceless starefire 30*20*20

Needed some advice. I currently have a 29g 30in wide and about 14 1/2 in tall that includes the sand. My question is I own a nova extreme t-5 fixture w/4 bulbs 2-420nb actinic & 1-10k, & 1-20k all 24watts. My tank mainly consists of sps and 3 clams. I by no means can afford a new fixture, so will replacing all 4 bulbs w/40watt bulbs benifit my corals? The new bulbs will be 2-12k actinic white & 2 super actinic.

Hi,
Here's mine only T5 SPS tank.

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w299/krzysztoftryc/tank_1.jpg

The combination of T5:
3 x blue plus ATI
2 x fiji KZ
1 x white 10 000 AM
3 x aquablue spezial ATI

I changed this combination many times and looked for the best mixture of T5 for my tank. I think I found it.

This all makes me want to switch to T5s... I think I am going to fit 4 in my hood with my MH... then go from there... great tanks everyone... I hope to have something similar one day... =)

Jester I feel your pain! I have both MH/T5 and was thinking of ditching my MH and going all T5. The pics and growth is amazing.

Probably will hold off and go with the ATI PM on my next build.

Just curious if the fixtures are suspended from the ceiling or canopy structure how easy they are to move to access your tank?

Thats interesting the wattage and intensity from the pictures doesn't seem very good but the corals color seem very vivid.

Does that mean 400W of T-5 is just as good as 400W MH?

My English is not good use the translator, I do not know if I understood the question.
The powermodule is 15cm of water and hung from the ceiling with steel wires, the height of the lamp is adjustable.
For maintenance of corals should raise it with a few cm you can not get good access.

nice zeo tank. do you find that the ABSs give you the best growth.

The growth with this powermodule is like hqi from 250w but the color of corals with the form T5 is excellent.

The intensity seems less because a t-5 with individual reflectors is more efficient than most halide reflectors. They are very directional and put a lot of light straight down. Take a look at most tanks with halides, they throw the light everywhere. Because of this they seem brighter because more light is hitting your eyes and the glass and the walls (this is wasted light). The luminarc is a very good reflector though. Usually you can go with less watts to achieve the same par. Halides have a hot spot right under the lamp. You have to look more at overall par. Right under a halide is a lot of light but off to the sides less. T-5 is more uniform and it also will light more sides of the coral. But you have to look at the tank to determine what is better and reflectors make a huge difference in both t-5 and halide. Both are good lighting options.

I would try to fit, the IceCap SLR's in there with some new bulbs and your fixture will be far more superior than with that one reflector it has now, tust me :) it makes a huge difference. There is a thread on here somewhere that explains how to put SLR's into your Nova Fixtre. I wanted to do it to my old Tek fixture but come to find out the one that you can replace the reflector on is the nova. Good luck.

that would be sweet. t-5's seem like they would be pretty easy to retrofit

Do you guys recommend T-5 for a 48" tank?
The fixture I think 54Wx8 is around $500

I just received a MD mailer catalog (10th year anniv addition) and there was a full page add towards the back for a new Nova Extreme t5 pro 72" 12x39w unit. Here's the direct link from current usa http://www.current-usa.com/nova_extreme_pro. Was thinking of this unit or the 2 x 36" ATI power mods.

yea the teklights are pretty sweet setups... they dont put as much par as one with individual reflectors like the SLS or SLR but it still puts out a decent amount for the money, on a deeper tank i would go with aquactinics(it has icecap SLR) as it will help put more lighting down into the tank. if the tank is not so deep the teklight will work great :)

The best and cheapest route is just getting a retro kit, IceCap SLR retro kit :)

its not really individual though :) its one large reflector that is bent up like single reflectors, unless they now have a new t5 hood with actual individual reflectors that i dont know about?

special reef go to Reefgeek.com they have all the reflector, and bulb needs :) as well as ballast... and entire retro kits.

i recently went from a 46bow to a 90 so i am still filling it up. i have had only t-5 on both the 46 ran 4 36 bulbs now the 90 is on 8 4 foot bulbs in 2 different fixtures. i need to replace some bulbs this week right now i have 4 10k and 4 atinics. i like the look of the tank when all the atinics are on with 2 10k (the lights cycle on and off) so i am thinking of changing some of the 10k to 12k we will see how it works out....

Now this is the type of thread stores need to print out and plaster right next to the T5 units. I keep hearing the same old "you can't grow SPS except under MH's" statement all the time.

Anyways you people keep some beautiful tanks. I love them all.

This Idol was my idol.
When he came to me, he used to refuse to eat. I was patient and tried feed him on everything what I had. He neglected me and turned away. After ten days he changed his mind and began to swoop down on all food. He nearly snatched everything from my hand. Unfortunately I decided to transfer him to the larger tank of my friend because of his ginormous size.:)
