Everything looked great last night when I went to bed.
Our new RBTA was attached to the rock work and inflated.
This morning I went to see if it moved and it had not, however it is dying or dead.
It looks as if it has melted and is falling apart.

My tank's inhabitants are astrea and cerith snails, one peppermint shrimp, a royal gramma and a chevron tang.
So I am pretty positive it wasn't attacked.

I acclimated for over 3 hours and I am at a loss as to why this happened.

Any ideas?

Sean

Could have been sick and or dieing when you got it. anemones as you know are tough critters to keep.

How are you parm's? What about your PH drop at night?

peppermint shrimps can be nem predators but usually only pick on the sick or weaker anemone.

it is Best to get a healthy clone from an experienced local reefer with no shipping the anemone will have a much better chance at life.

its definately dead and not just deflated right?

You didn't toss it already..right? I hope not because it could have been going through a water change. This can take hours I have had one that looked like that all night and all morning. Then at noon it inflated and was back to normal. No way would it die that fast. BTA's die very slowly it can take up to a month but once they start showing their white stringy things, around the mouth, or in the foot, it might die in a few days.

yep what he said. except.... my bta that i recieved in the mail (maybe ten months ago) everytime it deflates i can see its noodles. drives me nuts because my maroon pulls on them.

also id like to note... i have 2 btas. the one that I got from divers den is still shakey sometimes. its just never been as healthy. it seems more sensitive.

sometimes it'll deflate for a full 24hrs. (hasent done this in a few months, but everytime i get freaked out)

hopefully if it isent truely falling to pieces, it hasent been thrown away yet

This one is in two pieces.
One is hanging on to a rock rack barely.
I can not currently locate the other piece.

Before I manually remove the one piece I am going to look at its oral disk to see if it is ripped through that and possibly can recover.

thats a split. Is it loose and falling apart into the water column?

I'd like to think that too.
I have had anemones spilt in the past.
They both stay attached to the rock.
This time they both dettached and free floated in the water column.
One managed to somehow cling to a rock rack.
