If you are putting the light across the width of the tank, sure.
What if you decided to hang it from the ceiling.. could you use a 36" fixture? How different is the 2 bulbs spacing on a 36" vs 48" tank?
I ask because I see the pictures on this forum for pendants and they do not span the width of the tank at all.
