View Full Version : Octopus NW-150 making less foam...

I've noticed that over the past month, my Octopus NW-150 skimmer has been making way less foam (to the point of producing hardly any skimmate).

The riser rube in the collection cup used to be dark brown and caked in 1/8" of thick gunk every week or so, but after three weeks without being cleaned it is still clear enough to see through so I know that something is wrong.

When I look inside the skimmer's body, the bottom 6 inches or so has very little bubbles. Above that point, the body is packed with microbubbles -- but I have no way to reference how it should look as I can't remember what it looked like when functioning "properly".

Anybody with an octopus or other needlewheel-style skimmer had this problem???
I checked the airline tubing and it doesn't seem to be clogged.

(For reference, the tank is a 90 gallon FOWLR and my puffer alone should be giving this skimmer a workout so I don't think it's an issue of lack of undissolved nutrients.)

Thanks in advance,

Maybe your pump is clogged or dirty or reaching the end of it's useful life?
