What else is in your tank? Tailspots are great, but I'd be reluctant to put one into a tank with aggressive or significantly larger fish.

Mine is in a tank with a pair of onyx clowns, a red sea sailfin tang, a regular sailfin tang, and a blonde naso. Even with the larger fish, he still stands his ground. I just have to spot feed him because at feeding time, the food frenzy with the tangs is a little too much for him.

My favorite has always been a bicolor blenny.

I have a black sailfin too - flashy fins, nice red eyes, and assertive enough to stand up to aggressive, larger fish. Over the years, it has developed much brighter colors. I also saw a type at LA Diver's Den that was yellow (can't access the image now, it must have sold).

Here are some other images I was able to find of yellow Atrosalarias fuscus:

lol before i read that post I thought that was supposed to be the black sailfin

I would vote midas or tailspot... I was hooked on the midas until I read that they will nip at firefish frequently so I am thinking about the tailspot... there should be a thread I started about the tailspot from the past few days

I have a Starry Blenny. He's super cool in looks and personality. He changes colors from dark brown with tiny white dots, hence the name Starry Blenny, to grayish with brown bars to blend in with the rocks. Get a midas, they are very pretty and fun to watch. I have a firefish and the blenny doesn't pay attention to him. 37g tank with the blenny, firefish, and two 'sebae' clowns. The firefish is a little skittish but he comes out to eat and when the blenny isn't out.

Check out the Stripped Fang Blenny. Not a rock hopper but beautiful, entertaining swimming style, and venomous fangs to ward off any aggressive tank-mates.

Midas is my vote - gorgeous, and can definitely hold their own with larger, more aggressive tankmates. I just don't think you can beat those baby blue eyes and their little permasmiles :D

A lot depends on what you want.

Midas blennies are beautiful - a personal favorite of mine - and can hold their own, but they don't eat algae. Lawnmowers and tailspots will eat algae. Lawnmowers are known to be aggressive to other blennies (and sometimes other fish.)

It's a little unclear to me whether you're thinking of the lawnmower instead of the other blennies mentioned here, or in addition to. I have no idea whether you could keep a lawnmower and a midas - maybe someone else has experience with that - but I think it might be risky.

Yes, i belive i will, what is this personality that peoble keep talking about with e lawnmoer? i had a lawnmower blenny and he was awsome. when i put my hand in the tank he would swim to it and curl in my hand. he didnt make it. i upgraded from a 55g to a 135g and im trying a new one. this one is a little shy but cool to watch. i have never heard of or had any aggression towards other tank mates. then again i have a purple tang, CB angel, sixline, lyretail anthias, GS maroon clown, and a marine beta. although they arent the most attractive fish(personally i think they are ugly), thier personality makes up for it. good luck.

Barnacle blennies are really funny and great for a small tank, especially groups of them because they stay quite small. Be careful with the Bicolors (and many other combtooth-types)-- some develop a taste for LPS and clam mucus.

Midas blennies are pretty but the one I had (until he went carpet surfing) was annoying. They tend not to have the cute "rock-hopper" personality that people like. In habitat, they spend a lot of time swimming in Anthias schools so many have a habit of nervously swimming around in the water column and hanging out in the top corners of the tank.

I second the barnacle blennies- super cute and fun to watch dart to get food. They don't swim around or eat algae, so you'll only see them during feeding unless you look where they stay in their cave or hole. their bioload is as close to nil as you can get for a fish.

I've had 2 Midas Blenny's and they both exhibited the same personality. half of the time they would find a couple favorite holes in the rocks and would hang out there half sticking out of these holes.

The rest of their time they spent in the middle of the water column where they swim like an eel. Very fun to watch IMO.

Also mine would recognize me from across the room and come out begging for food all the time. Mine have never hung out in the top corners of my tank. Although my tank is fairly large at 150G.

you should check out the stigmata blenny, they have some super cool red lines all over the back half of the body. Looks like their tail is on fire.
