I have a jager 250w heater in my 75g. The heater in the house is broken, so the temps in the house are in the low 60s. I had the jager heater set to 77 degrees and the lowest the tanks temp got was about 76 degrees. I figured maybe the thermostat was off by 1 degree. So a couple days later, I turned the thermostat up to 79 degrees, and in the morning the temp of the tank was still at 76 degrees.

Is 250w enough to heat my 75g with the house temps in the low 60s?

I have an Eheim Jager 200-watt heater in my 104-gallon system (75g main + 29g sump). Per the Eheim Jager webpage (http://www.eheim.com/jager.htm), this should be enough. However, during cold winter nights, when the room with my aquarium drops to the mid-60's, the water temperature may drop up to 3 degrees from 77 to 74 by morning.

You can add a second heater if one is not adequate.

It wouldn't hurt to add another 250w heater to your tank. They're really inexpensive, you can get them at wal-mart, and if one goes out, you'll have a backup running already.
