There were a couple threads on this awhile back and no one seemed to know the answer. I found the answer and figured I would share.
Anytime I lost power to my Sedra 5000 on my ER skimmer when it would come back online it would not be able to reprime itself. You could see it trying to pull the air down through the venturi but it wouldn't make it all the way. What I had to do was blow on the end of the tube to get it going, once I did that everything was fine.
On a hunch, I bought a whole new impeller assembly (magnet & all). I plugged it in and behold, this thing not only primes itself faster than you can blink. But I've had to lower the riser 5 or 6 inches because its skimming so wet now.
I did clean the old assembly several times in the past but I never realized the magnet needed to be replaced ever so often as a part of maintenance.
