I cant remember...just making sure before I do this. I have a 30 gallon tank. If I remember right 30-40% water change a month is what is they say...right? I was thinking of doing 2.5 gallons a week..would that work?

I would think that would work just fine for you. I think people normally do a little bigger change, and then spread it out to every 2 weeks to a month. But your plan should work well.

I would do about a 10% every other week if it were me.
Unless your having some serious problems that warrant a weekly massive water change.

You are much better off doing small weekly changes instead of one large monthly. i currently change 4-5g a week in my sons 29g . such a small volume of water becomes polluted in a short amout of time. your corals are better off.

For some reason I cant get my nitrates below 5. I think I was overfeeding, but not anymore..Im hoping that the weekly water change will help...do you think it will?

Nitrates at 5 to 10 is normal
I'm sure a weekly water change will help but only about 5% IMO.

I have the perfect solution for your nitrate problems.
Buy a huge tank with an awesome skimmer and your nitrates will be almost nil all the time.
It seems as though it is always a challenge to keep the nitrates down in a small tank w/o a sump. I have a 125 with a 90 gallon sump in the basement and my nitrates are undetectable. When I had a 55 w/o a sump my nitrates were always in the red.

I now do water changes every 3 or 4 months and that is just because... I guess it is just because. I used to change water every week in that 55 and it hardly mad a difference three days later. Now I feed the fish all I want and there is no trace of nitrates. MY advise is break the bank build a huge tank and you will not have anymore nitrate problem and you be more stress free than ever watching all those fish swim.

I agree with smaller changes more often. I my self have never done more than 25% water change.
