Ok folks, its that time again for me to buy test kits. I have always had good luck with Salifert kits. With all of the recent uproar over the Bad Alk kits and shaky Ca kits, and all of the no response posts in the Salifert forum I am beginning to wonder. Any suggestions ???

Elos alk kit is cheaper than Salifert and easier to use. I picked one up at a LFS for around $15. I bought it after reading about unreliability in Salifert alk kits only to find the Elos one shows the same reading as my Salifert.

I feel your pain. I'm a long time Salifert fan. My last Alk kit was reading more than 2 dKH too high. I just picked up a LaMotte Alk test. They're on sale through an RC sponsor. (Marine Depot). It's not as easy to use, but I believe it to be accurate. It gives the reading in ppm, so I go to this website to convert it to dKH:

$21.99 I think you can then buy replacements for just the titrates. They come in a nice plastic kit with a (well marked) glass beaker.

Sounds pretty good, I have always heard good things about lamotte kits.

I have Elos and Lamotte Alk kits and prefer the Elos because there are fewer steps and no color charts to compare things with.

The resolution of Elos kits is 1dKH. If you use 10ml of water, then the resolution is 0.5dKH.
