Sump or Refugium

You can tell I am new to this. I am in the process of changing my filtration in my tank. What is the difference between a sump and a refugium? I am confused. I want to change my filtration to a refugium. Is one better than the other?

a sump can be any water container that receives water from the display, and that water is pumped back to the tank.

a refugium can exist inside a sump, it is an area where you can grow macroalgae, pods, etc.
