I bought my first Florida Ric last week. Unforutnately, the color of the Ric has reduced slightly [It is still beautiful]. I purchased the Ric from a tank with PC lighting. I placed it into my tank towards the top of the tank where there is sufficient flow. My lighting system is also P/C. Why has the color reduced slightly?

Thanks.

First off congrats on the purchase.......... pic please.

It may just be adjusting to it's new ocean. You might consider putting it in less direct light on the sand bed until it settles in for a week or so then move it up a little at a time. Just having the same type of lighting doesn't mean other paramaters aren't different for it to adjust to. Even the age of the lights can matter.

Good luck....

I know that my rics took a while to color up. Another thing that I think the thing that made my rics get so colorful was phytoplankton doseings. may be a good thing to try.

I feed mine cyclop-eeze. It generates the most intense feeding response. I have vivid colors, too. I also dose phyto and rotifers.

i use pc's on LPS and softies with no problem and good growth .. i honestly think that coral doesn't nessisarily need as much light as some people believe they do .. i think its more about the kelvin then anything.

i have about 130 watts over a 55.. and i have crazy growth with all my shrooms all my rics look great.. and i recently got a yuma .. and it spouted 2 babies after a week in my tank ..

what size is yur tank .. how much watts of pc and how high are the rics away from the top .

Fading in a new Ric is a sign of too much light too soon. Place the Ric about halfway about for about a week or two then move it up top after it starts looking good.

That was my guess as well. Probably too much too soon.

Was the change in lighting a great one at all? I know it went from PC to PC but you didn't mention how much (hey, I've seen tanks that have a lot of PC jammed above it!).
