Does anyone know if the back is tempered glass? I fired an e-mail at them a while ago and haven't heard back other than thank you for registering for their news...

Thanks,
James

When these tanks first came out I was told by my oceanic rep that nothing on the tank was tempered.

I was told on the ultimate everything is tempered except for the bottom.

Nothing on the Oceanic Ultimates is tempered. The front panel is Starphire and the back and sides and bottom panels are untempered float glass

Thanks! I was interested in having a couple of holes drilled in the back and needed to find out before moving forward with a tank (after I convince the wife I need a larger one now...)

dsn112-
Your Oceanic reef ready may have a tempered bottom but it is not an Ultimate I am afraid. Oceanic briefly made tanks with tempered bottoms between 2005 and early 2006 in their old Dallas, TX location. The Ultimates have only been made AFTER the move to Franklin, WI and have only been made out of float, annealed glass. Unless your tank is a Tech tank your aquarium would also not have a Starphire front panel like the Ultimates do.
