I have a 6 gal NC with the stock 18w CF, which gives me a total of 3watts per gal. If i add another 18w CF to give me a total of 6watts per gal, will it be better for the corals that i have? I mostly have softies. (shrooms, xenia, zoo's and candy canes) Will corals thrive with the extra light or am i wasting my time in adding the light? I know adding more light is better, but in this case its only 36watts total.

I'm sure it would make a difference, both in growth and colour.

Though your corals may already be healthy under their current lighting.. Do you have any pics?

Adding 1 would be good. Adding 2 would be even better.

Nice Zoo's and coral.

I can't believe you have that cheap temp gauge:eek2: . Just kidding.

Yeah. after i took the pic i said the same thing. It went out right after that. I have a digital temp from the beginning.

My cheap glass therm, is more accurate than the digital coralife (POS)

Anyways, you could get the 2nd bulb and only turn it on during a 2 hour peek mid-day, like the sunniest part of the day. See how the corals respond and go from there.

IMO 6w of PC is still a bit weak.

I was thinking of the same thing. Do you think adding the extra bulb will increase the temp inside the tank? In the stock form, i think the fans really cooled the transformer and the ballast. With the ballasts and transformers outside the tank, should i have any temp issues? If so, this would be a good time to also upgrade the fans.

Yup, more light + more heat. Fans are a good way to move that hot air. But watch the evap, it increases.
