Cloudy Acrylic?????

I would buy an acrylic tank, however one rumor stopped me. The rumor was acrylic gets cloudy with time. Is this true?

I have a 5 year old clarity plus tank that i bought from a LFS. Mine is perfectly clear.

I also have a marineland 12 gallon thats easily three years old - still clear.
